Achieving Healthy Smiles and Building Friendships

I love getting to know my patients and their families on a personal level. Each has their own experiences, dreams, and stories to share. I find that listening and encouraging them to talk about their lives enriches my own. I’m always learning something new from our conversations and that makes me a better human and a better dentist.

From a very young age I knew I wanted to be a dentist: I really didn’t consider any other profession. After practicing for more than 25 years, I am thankful I chose this path. Every day I spend time with people I care about, building connections that go beyond provider and patient. I’m now caring for the smiles of children, grandchildren, and even some great-grandchildren of my first patients. I can’t think of a greater honor!

Our Practice

My team is composed of remarkably compassionate, giving people. Each is devoted to our patients’ comfort and genuinely cares about people’s welfare. We’re like a family, supporting each other so we can provide the best experience for our patients. Our closeness creates a trusting, friendly environment where our patients tell us they feel safe and at home.

Education and Continuing Education

My undergraduate studies were completed at Adrian College. I then enrolled in the University of Detroit, where I was awarded my Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS).

Each year, my team and I complete many hours of continuing dental education, locally, regionally, and nationally. We attend various meetings, lectures, and seminars, learning from the leading practitioners and researchers in oral healthcare.

This keeps us at the leading-edge of advancements in dental techniques, materials, and technology. We’re able to evaluate the new options and determine which are right to bring back and incorporate into our practice. Our patients can be assured they will always receive advanced, conservative, proven dental care from my team and me.

Beyond the Practice

I’ve enjoyed living in Midland all my life. In fact, most of my family, as well as my wife Lori’s family, are in this area. My brother Dave owns Smith-Miner Funeral Home and my sister Shari owns Shari's Catering and Company . Lori has retired after teaching math for 30 years. We’re empty-nesters, as my son and two daughters are all living on their own and working in their chosen professions.

I love to fish, so when not at the office the majority of the time I’m out chasing walleye, bluegill, or perch. I also enjoy golfing with my family and friends and am always up for a card game or two!
